What is a Dermaroller?
A Dermaroller is a handheld, manual device that has a cylindrical drum attached to the end. This drum is surrounded by small needles that when rolled over the surface of the skin cause mild trauma to it. This trauma stimulates a healing response from the skin which in turn increases collagen and elastin production. It is collagen and elastin that give the skin a firm and smooth texture. Dermarollers have different needle lengths. The lengths used depend upon the skin concern being treated. See below.

How does micro-needling work?
Your skin is very thin, but made up of three layers: epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous. Microneedling is designed to penetrate the epidermis with very fine tiny needles, this stimulates collagen and allows the body to heal itself.
The tiny needles create small wounds to the edpidermis. The epidermis will then go through 3 different stages of healing:
- Inflammation
- Proliferation (tissue formation)
- Tissue remodelling
It may seem a little drastic to create small wounds, but in doing so the leucocytes (white blood cells) begin to act and repair the damaged tissue, remove debris and kill bacteria. This process produces a massive surge of collagen and more elastin.
The skin with more collagen and elastin will progressively tighten over the following months.
What is Derma Roller?
The Dermaroller is made up of a small, solid wheel attached to a little stick that is covered with hundreds of minuscule ‘micro-medical’ needles that penetrate the skin, creating lots of tiny ‘wounds’. Your skin responds by producing extra collagen to ‘heal’ the punctures and plump up the skin to enhance the natural blood supply – so you get a natural ‘glow’.
Why is Derma Treatment so important?
By the age of 50, most men and women have lost almost 50% of their collagen. Collagen is the vital component within the skin that keeps the skin plump and firm. Micro-Needling Dermaroller treatments within the Hertfordshire clinic, puncture the skin, causing it to effectively traumatise. This kicks starts the skin to want to produce new collagen and new healthy skin cells which replace the dying ones which have become prominent in older age.
How do I prepare for the procedure?
You should avoid any potentially irritating skincare products at least 3 days prior to your treatment. You should then avoid intensive UV exposure and artificial exposure for at least 2 weeks after your procedure. It is important that you use a high-level broad spectrum UVB|UVA sun protectant on a daily basis during this period, even in winter and on cloudy days.
Once the redness has cleared following an EDS the procedure, it is important that the skin is cared for on an ongoing daily basis with an effective anti-ageing regime. The BeauSynergy specialists will recommend a regime most suitable for you, which will also help maintain the results.
What results can I expect?
