The affects of Winter on your skin is common in most people around the world as most of us can’t say we live in a year round warm climate where the sun is shining and flip flops are worn during our winter months. Those that live in areas that have the change of seasons, especially winter will notice that their skin changes more than those without radical climate change so abruptly. Avoid the added harm to your skin and take steps to not only protecting your skin from the affects of winter but also creating healthier looking skin along the way.
Besides the freezing winter months being unpleasant to some, as we’re bundled up and stuck in doors we are experiencing a harsh sudden change to our skin. Even if it’s the freezing cold or the wonderfully warm heater that although feels amazing it’s draining our skin of it’s moisture while slowly causing damage.
Not only will the sudden change of temperature cause premature aging with the drying of your skin but it also triggers prior skin care conditions. Psoriasis, acne, eczema and those with sensitivities becomes irritated, angry, itchy and cracked if the skin is not taken cared of properly. A great way to avoid irritation is by avoiding hot showers and baths as well as remembering to put a lid on your hot beverages as steam is a terrible factor in having angry skin.
Nothing feels as good as having a cup of nice hot cocoa as you’re bundled up, hugged by a warm blanket sitting by the fire. Unfortunately this may not be the best idea for your skin’s health (I’m so sorry to break it to you!) but it doesn’t mean you have to stop it all together. Caffeine dries out your already sensitive and dry skin that is lacking moisture due to the cold outdoors and the dry indoor air. Opt for decaffeinated beverages when available. Need the caffeine to get that extra boost? Drink a cup of green tea which is not only filled with antioxidants, reduces inflammation and fights free radicals. Don’t forget to put a lid on it!
Whether it’s rain, sunshine, sleet or snow you need to keep your skin protected and safe. Any part of skin that is exposed must always be covered with sunscreen. With the use of sunscreen you are protecting yourself from harmful free radicals and UV/UVB rays. One major factor of premature aging is the damage of the UV\UVB rays even with no risk of sunburn as the UVB’s are weaker in the winter.
Regardless the season you always need to moisturize. Keeping your skin well hydrated with moisture prevents and heals dry, cracked and itchy skin while your skin appears smooth and radiant. Continuously using moisturizer may help with the appearance of lines, wrinkles and premature ageing. During the winter replace regular lotions with thicker creams while remembering to carry a trial size wherever you go. Try applying coconut oil on wet skin fresh out the shower and towel dry before applying moisturizer to lock in the hydration.
What better way to keep your winter skin happy by following a skin care regimen. Rejuvenated vibrant skin doesn’t come naturally but following a proper routine daily has your skin benefiting greatly. Every morning and evening follow the basic routine while making sure you exfoliate 3 to 4 times a week and those with sensitive skin 1 or 2 times weekly.
Following these simple steps can lead to healthier, younger looking skin
Avoid the pain and discomfort by taking the must needed steps to get that bright and healthy skin you deserve. Following the proper skin care regimen all year round will allow your skin to stay healthy and less likely to become damaged this winter. Don’t forget as you take care of your skin that your lips need to be pampered as well. Purchase a soothing lip protectant with SPF (min30) and minimal chemical ingredients, then prepare yourself for beautiful, healthier looking skin all year round.
