Dermaroller - The Treatment

DermaRoller ToolAs the BeauSynergy Genuine DermaRoller is rolled over the skin it creates pin point punctures into the dermis. This fools the body into thinking there is damage and so stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin.

Using a process often referred to as Skin Needling, the BeauSynergy Genuine DermaRoller works in very straightforward but mechanical way and can be used from treatment in the clinic or the home. During the process the 192 micro needles cause a tickling sensation and are able to part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. These pores close again around an hour later and so are better able (by 4-87%) to absorb and benefit from any further BeauSynergy treatments or products.

The treatment procesure is as follows:

  1. After cleansing, the area is covered in topical anaesthetic cream for an hour to ensure a comfortable experience.
  2. The area is then treated in sections with the Genuine DermaRoller passed over the area 6 times until erythema (local swelling) and small pinprick bloods spots are seen.
  3. Once complete the area is then re-cleansed and moisturised.
  4. Following treatment the skin feels itchy as if sun burned and the area will look slightly red, again as if sunburned but all externally visible effects will has disappeared by the next day.

Self Treatment

Needles, also those of a needle roller, are invasive instruments and if they are not guaranteed sterile they will transport bacteria into the dermis. This can result in blood poisoning, massive infections with possible and permanent disfigurement of your skin.

Therefore any needle roller with needles longer than 0.2 mm is a SINGLE USE DISPOSABLE instrument.

When you buy rollers from the internet with needles longer than 1.5 mm you risk severe tissue damage, vessel and nerve rupture and nasty haematomas and more…

Never apply a numbing cream outside a doctor’s office on your skin. Numbing creams, especially those without GMP approval, can lead to a fatal anaphylactic shock.

The Genuine DermaRoller cylindrical drum’s tiny needles are shorter than other brands at 1.2mm in length.

The significance of shorter needles:

  • Needles have time to exit the skin fully before re-entering which avoids tearing of the dermis.

Q: What are the risks and side effects of Genuine DermaRoller Therapy?
A: The risks of treatment with the Genuine DermaRoller are very low. Some prolonged redness may occur but is rare. Infection is also rare as the skin normally heals very quickly after Genuine DermaRoller treatment. Hyper-pigmentation is very uncommon following this treatment as no epidermis is removed. Patients who have a risk of hyper-pigmentation will benefit from a course of skin preparation prior to Genuine DermaRoller Therapy. Mild bruising may occur especially around the eyes. This resolves in 5–7 days.

A: Yes! Genuine DermaRoller Therapy is a good alternative to fractionatal LASER resurfacing especially for patients who do not want the longer recovery of laser treatments and also for certain skin types where laser treatment has a risk for pigmentation changes.
